How we read a story
See how the story is framed, why it matters, and what happens next.
WatchfulEye is a news and geopolitical intelligence product from Monarc Systems, Inc. This page is how we read a source, how we name a frame, and where reporting ends and inference begins.
What this is
A method, not a scoreboard. We do not publish a hit rate. We do not sell a prediction engine.
How a source is graded
We do not keep a curated allow/deny list of outlets. Every source is profiled the same way from observable evidence:
Ownership and funding. Editorial versus news separation. Correction and accountability practices. Transparency about perspective. Story selection patterns. Sourcing quality.
Those profiles live in the product and refresh on a roughly 30-day cadence. If we have not profiled an outlet yet, the analysis treats it on its own merits and queues a profile. Nothing here is a permanent grade from a spreadsheet.
A source profile is not a verdict on today's article. It is the prior: who owns this desk, what they usually do, what they usually avoid.
What a frame is
The frame is the article's job, not its topic. What it is trying to make you conclude. What it leaves out. What would have to be true for this version of the story to hold.
We separate the source-level profile (stable, weeks) from the article-level framing (this piece, this hour). Two outlets can cover the same event and be doing different jobs. Naming that difference is the product.
Reporting versus inference
Reporting is what the piece asserts, attributes, and leaves out. Inference is what may follow for markets, governments, industries, and people — labeled as inference, not as fact. If we cannot tell those apart, we have failed the brief.
Corroboration
A single outlet is a single outlet. We look for other coverage, contrary evidence, and whether the claim is calendar consensus dressed as news. Structured fields (source reliability, information quality, corroboration) are the record. Prose that contradicts those fields is a bug.
Ask the Eye
In the app, Ask the Eye is how you argue with the article. You can push the frame, ask what is missing, and test the inference. It is a debate with the source, not a fortune teller.
What we do not claim
Not a news feed. Not Ground News. Not a trading terminal. Not a prediction engine. Not CCTV, and not any of the other Watchful Eyes.
