What changed
The United States spoke at the Council. This is not a recap of the 20 August IOM Kordofan print.
AP, 24 August (analysis 42269, article custom_91e36aca226f, impact HIGH, gravity A/2) says the United States urged the U.N. Security Council to impose strengthened financial, military, and political sanctions on the warring parties in Sudan — the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces — to compel them to negotiate an end to the war.
The same piece: President Donald Trump's senior adviser for Arab and African affairs, Massad Boulos, delivered the statement.
AP carries the war as having killed at least 59,000 people, displaced some 13 million, and driven parts of the country into famine.
The same wire, battlefield color: reported surrenders of RSF defectors to Sudanese army forces near Khartoum. The AP photo caption on the article places those defectors in the west of Omdurman, just outside Khartoum, on 19 August.
